Who are we ?

Jean-Baptiste Bacquart graduated in history of art and archeology at the Sorbonne and the Ecole du Louvre. After heading  Sotheby’s London Tribal Art Department (1992-2000), he is now a dealer and adviser, working with museums and international collectors, advising them in their acquisitions and preserving works of art.

His book, "The Tribal Art of Black Africa" (Thames and Hudson) is a great success and is now in its fourth edition.

Jean-Baptiste Bacquart participates in major international tribal art fairs in Brussels, Paris and the United States. Journalists regularly solicit his views and expertise on the tribal art market.

When Jean-Baptiste Bacquart established himself as an art dealer, Marie-Astrid Courtois assisted him. She then became fascinated by Tribal Art, and educated herself by his side.

She helps organising the major cultural events of the Galerie: Parcours des Mondes, Paris Tribal, Tefaf, and helps him produce catalogues. She greets customers and answers their requests. She also manages the day to day activity of the Gallery.
